WUXI STUDIOS
Wuxi, Jiangsu, China
6,000,000 square meters
In partnership with: Wuxi Film Studios
Once the site of the Xuelang Steel Mill, Wuxi Studios stands today as a premier example of adaptive reuse and urban revitalization. Transformed into a world-class film production campus, the facility—affectionately known as “Chinawood Studios”—has positioned Wuxi as a major hub in China’s growing entertainment industry.
The 180,000-square-meter complex integrates advanced commercial film production with a vibrant leisure destination. The development includes state-of-the-art production facilities, post-production services, and the world’s largest purpose-built sound stage. Complementing the production infrastructure is a dynamic “movie city,” featuring an entertainment district, multiple-screen cinema, themed attractions, retail, and dining—all designed to engage both professionals and the public.
Nvision led the development of the project’s programming and conceptual design, encompassing:
The main studio facility
Branding and placemaking strategy
Integrated entertainment and retail zones
Work-live creative lofts for artists and producers
Public realm and visitor experiences
Wuxi Studios officially opened in June 2012 and has since become a key driver of regional economic and cultural activity. With over 30 films expected to be produced annually on-site, the campus supports both domestic and international productions. It is currently operated by California-based Raleigh Studios, ensuring global standards in operation and service.
This visionary project not only showcases China’s commitment to advancing its film industry but also reflects a bold and creative approach to sustainable urban redevelopment.
